The Medical Diagnostic Imaging Labs offers a space for MDI students to practice Imaging techniques on phantoms to create images of the human body for clinical purposes and perform a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Tests for the X-ray machines and Processors.

The Medical Diagnostic Imaging Department has two labs, one located in the male’s campus (M12-125) and the other one in the female’s campus (W12-040). Both labs are fully equipped and properly designed to simulate a hospital Radiology Department. Each Medical Diagnostic Imaging Lab has a dark room, x-ray room and a class room. In addition to a portable x-ray machine room, ultrasound machine room and tomography machine room.
The laboratories are designed to simulate a clinical radiography facility. As part of quality assurance, the students are being taught to perform quality control procedures using test tools and phantoms. Also students are trained to do basic radiographic positioning of patients, and to take actual x-ray exposures using different phantoms.

Each lab is taught by a fully-qualified faculty member, with the support of clinical tutors for some procedures. There is an emphasis on radiation safety in which radiation exposures can only be made under the supervision of qualified faculty. A key lock system was developed to allow only authorized faculty to switch on the radiation lock of the x-ray machine. All faculty and students are provided with radiation monitoring badges by Ministry of Health to measure the amount of radiation received.
Medical Diagnostic Imaging Labs can operate and provide a broad range of screening and diagnostic imaging tests as the one provided at professional clinics and hospitals. |
